7 of Jasper’s Best Lakes and Waterfalls

I had the privilege of exploring Jasper during it’s hottest period. Lakes and waterfalls were a necessity when it came to keeping cool. Here are 7 of Jasper’s best lakes and waterfalls that are safe to swim in and easy to view.

1. Lake Annette

Lake Annette is a beautiful lake that is popular and wonderful for swimming. The lake is perfect for paddle boarding and is a popular swimming destination with a beautiful beach and mountain range.

This lake is just outside of Jasper and has picnic tables and a sandy beach. I found the parking lot and beach to be full. To get good parking you would have to either wait or come early in the day. Since the beach was busy, my family and I decided to go to one of the picnic spots surrounding the lake. The opening to the lake was still beach like and sandy.

The water, as you can see, was a beautiful teal that created perfect pictures.

Another lake nearby is lake Edith. I personally did not go there because I couldn’t find parking but from the looks of it, it is another perfectly beautiful and blue lake to swim in.

2. Lake Patricia

Lake Patricia is a small lake close to the campground we stayed at, Miette Campground. When we went there, the beach was private and few people stopped by. There was a dock that you could use to send out boats and the lake was, once again, perfect for paddle boarding.

This lake is in fact smaller and is more difficult to find but that does not take away from it’s beauty. This was my favourite lake because of its clarity and privacy.

3. Punchbowl Falls

Punchbowl falls is a stunning waterfall located in Miette Campground. In the campground there is a hiking trail that leads to the falls. The trail is a bit steep at some parts but the views and the waterfall make it very much worth it.

This waterfall got it’s name from it’s unique shape. The water from the top of the cliff falls into a bowl supposedly shaped like a punchbowl. It’s beautiful to watch and the bridge overtop gets you a stunning view.

The hike is just as beautiful. The trail is in a beautiful part of the woods and allows you to hear the waterfall as you get closer. Everything about this waterfall is amazing and the hike is just as beautiful, makin g this one of the 7 of Jasper’s best lakes and waterfalls.

This is the top of the waterfall that starts from a creek that runs through the campground.

4. Pyramid Lake

Pyramid lake is another beautiful lake in Jasper. It has a wonderful trail to an island in the middle and is perfect for kayaking, paddle boarding, or boating in general. I personally have not been on this lake but from the glances I have gotten from it, it seems pretty good.

Parking is again another factor that limited my access to this lake but if I had found a spot, I am sure the lake would have been lovely. It is huddled beneath Pyramid Mountain and, once again, is surrounded by a beautiful mountain range.

This picture showcases the island in the middle, Pyramid Island. Learn how to take photos like this by reading my nature scapes photography post!

6. Maligne Canyon

Maligne Canyon counts as a waterfall in my opinion and has to be added to this list. This canyon was naturally created and is surrounded with beautiful forests and mountains that make the long hike around the canyon worth it. The day I went it was too hot to do the longer hike but if you are a history buff and want to see beautiful sights I would suggest taking the longer one.

I loved the waterfalls in this canyon and appreciated the bridges that showcased the deep craters the canyon has.

This is an image of one of the waterfalls in Maligne Canyon.

Maligne canyon also has a lovely lake nearby called Maligne Lake. Maligne Lake is a very popular attraction that has Spirit Island and a beautiful mountain range that is definitely worth checking out.

7. Miette Hot Springs

Last but certainly not least is the Miette Hot Springs. These are famous Hot Springs in the campground I stayed at, Miette Campground. They are amazing and surrounded with good hiking trails and colossal mountains.

The hot springs consist of a hot pool and a cold plunge. The cold plunge felt amazing when I went because it was over thirty degrees Celsius when we stayed. I highly recommend taking a trip up the mountain to experience this amazing pool.

Special Mentions

Some other fantastic lakes are Lake Louise, Jasper Lake and more that are surely just as great as these.

Conclusion

These were some of the amazing lakes I got to check out and see and I definitely recommend you check out! I hope this helped and have fun exploring 7 of Jasper’s best lakes and waterfalls.
